In 11 hours I leave for Florida. I get to see my niece and six-week-old nephew! Friday, I help my sister and brother-in-law move to Rhode Island. Return home next Wednesday. I am so ready for this vacation.

My head no 'splode today
Man. I can barely see to type this. I had an appointment with the ophthalmologist this morning, and they dilated my eyes. Hard to focus on anything. Soon I have to drive to work. lol. Awesome.

But on the plus side, everything seems to be holding steady. My head is not going to explode anytime soon. lol. Which is good, because I don't want another spinal tap or to have a shunt put in my head. Visual field test next week will confirm.

Next month I get to see the neuro-ophthalmologist. woo.

What an exciting game. I can't believe the Giants won. Or rather, I can't believe the Patriots lost.

WTF?!
Yeah. So, wow. Driving home tonight from work, some ASSHOLE was driving the wrong way down a divided highway, an HE SIDESWIPED MY CAR!!! Really! How do you drive the wrong way down a DIVIDED HIGHWAY!?

But, yeah, I'm fine. My car is fine too. The fact that he was driving the wrong way pretty much slowed traffic down, so neither of us were going very fast. His car, however, was all smashed to shit before he even hit me. Maybe that had something to do with the fact that he was DRIVING THE WRONG WAY DOWN A DIVIDED HIGHWAY!!!! Also, he was driving erratically. Like, he totally went around the car in front of me, but then turned and headed right for me!

So anyway, I had to find a turn-around and go back and by the time I got there the cops were there (they were really fast, yo)  and there were other people there who got hit and he was up against his car being handcuffed. I was pretty much freaked out, but I am a bit calmer now that I am home and after having a mudslide. :-) I'm just pissed that he scraped up my car. Just some small scrapes by the driver side headlight, but still! My car is less than a year and a half old. I'll kill a bastard!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I have lived in Michigan my entire life, but it's days like today that make me really want to move someplace tropical. This morning my car doors were actually frozen shut. It's 13°F outside. -6°F with the windchill. Definitely a day for the space heater at work.

Awesome
From here:

Although also very popular in East Asia and in other parts of the American continent, baseball is the quintessential North American sport, early in the 20th century even labelled the ‘national pastime’ of the USA. It remains so today: in the US, the words ‘ballgame’ and ‘ballpark’ automatically refer to baseball, not to any other sport.

To the disinterested outsider, baseball shares some vague similarities with cricket – not a coincidence, since baseball is an 18th-century development out of earlier bat-and-ball games popular with British immigrants, such as ‘rounders’. This origin is somewhat disputed: some evidence exists for a British game also called ‘base-ball’, as in British novelist Jane Austen’s ‘Northanger Abbey’ (written circa 1800), where some children play it on a village green.

Nowadays, professional baseball in North America is organized in Major League Baseball, composed of the National league (°1876) and the American league (°1901). Both are divided in to Eastern, Central and Western divisions. The game has – or had – a mainly eastern following: the first major league teams on the West Coast were ‘transplants’ from Back East: the Brooklyn Dodgers moved to LA in 1958, the New York Giants to San Francisco in 1961 – the same year the first ‘original’ West Coast team was founded: the LA Angels.

This map, indicating all teams in the National and American sub-leagues of Major League Baseball, translates some of the American obsession with baseball into a representation of the supposed ‘countries’ of baseball. As with many other team sports, the fan base of baseball teams is to a large extent regional. Unless you’re of a contrary nature, you support the local team – barring of course that you move, and continue to support your home team as a kind of sentimental link with your place of origin.

"Also, I like the new LJ update screen. I am updating from it now. It's shiny and looks like update screens for other services I use (well, layout-wise). Also, it's pretty. And I love the little icon selector thing. Awesome."

and

"Completely unrelatedly, this new update page? SUCKS BALLS. My retinas shall ever be the same."

And if you were wondering, I am updating from semagic and haven't seen the new update page.

So, I did not have access to a computer until just now otherwise I would have posted this much earlier in the evening.

THE TIGERS ARE GOING TO THE FREAKING WORLD SERIES!!!!!

This fills me with unbridled glee! Four straight games!

I will be attempting to get tickets come Monday morning. I was downtown in '84 when they won the World Series, though not at the actual game. But we were all there in Hart Plaza watching on our little portable 3" black and white TVs. Hopefully this year I will be at Game 1 or Game 2.

If there is someone on your Friends List who makes your world a better place just because that person exists and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.
